Some of my favorite reads

” The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss

I love to read. Funny, because when I was a child I despised it. If it wasn’t something that I needed to read for school, then forget it. And even then it was a chore to get me to read my required reading. I would rather sit and put toothpicks in my eyes. Okay, maybe not that bad, but it was at the bottom of my list of things I disliked. Wow, how things have changed.

Now, I occasionally get asked what books I’m reading and usually I have about 3 in rotation at a time. If you want to be a good writer, I believe a lot can be learned from reading. It also helps stimulate your mind and helps you connect with others in the world. Its powerful, it expands your vocabulary, it helps with interpretation of words and understanding, it helps you engage at a higher level due to your expanded vocabulary. Books are fun, educational, and simply pleasurable.

Until now, I never considered myself as a writer but have always liked to journal and keep daily notes and such of my life. When I started my blog about 6 months ago is when I truly started to consider myself a writer. Blogs are a great way to put out content and allows others to get a glimpse into what ever it is you blog about. Fashion, makeup, parenting, food, travel, and much more, healing, motivation, or even simple life tips. I follow and read many others blogs for fun and inspiration.

I have read many books, Bible studies, memoirs, and fiction/nonfiction, and the Bible. The Bible of course is my favorite and is one that I will always use for reference and understanding.  I wanted to give you my list of suggestions of favorite books which I have read, am currently reading, or will in the next month to allow you the chance to dive into these awesome reads. There is nothing like a cool rainy evening, wrapped up in a blanket, with a hot cup of tea. Whats your favorite spot to dig into a great book? Leave me a comment, I’d love to know.

Heres my list:

  1. The Bible
  2. The Bait of Satan- John Bevere
  3. Discerning the Voice of God- Priscilla Shirer
  4. Uninvited- Lysa Turkeurst
  5. Present over Perfect- Shauna Niequist
  6. Fervent- Priscilla Shirer
  7. Good Leaders Ask Great Questions- John C. Maxwell
  8. What Women Fear- Angie Smith
  9. Love Warrior: A Memoir- Glennon Doyle Melton (Oprah’s book club)
  10. The 5 love languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts- Gary D. Chapman
  11. Wild and Free: Zondervan, Jennie Allen
  12. Unashamed Study Guide: Christine Caine

#9, #11, and #12 are books that I have on my next reader pile and have heard great things about them. Especially #9, Love Warrior.  True stories, memoirs, and documentaries get me every time. For me, connecting with others, hearing their stories of triumph, freedom, victory, and words that I can relate to have so much power and confirmation that we are all human and in need of hope.

Speaking of hope and encouragement, I am in the process of writing my memoir but can’t give you an exact date of release. Im hoping for early 2017.

So grab one of these books above, read it aloud to your spouse or a friend, and I hope these selections encourage you as much as they have encouraged me. Life is about sharing and learning from each other. Connecting, laughing, crying, and even in the “I don’t know” moments you can meet a special friend that will be there for you through the next chapter of your life. Coffee shops and book stores are the best places to meet people of similar interests. Join a book club! I recently joined one and attend once a month with a dear friend. I’m telling you there are some incredible ladies there with which I have connected.

Leave me a comment and let me know which one of these books you love the best. Until next time…

Blessings,

Tyra
