There are days I feel like I need a do-over, even though that’s not possible. Rushing out of the house, dropping the kids off at school, running errands throughout the day, back through the pick up lines, homework, dinner, baths, and bed. Geesh…I am tired just thinking about it all. I want to share with you five things that may be stopping you from moving forward.
I can remember about 5 years ago, I stopped at a store to shop and had my three children with me. At the time, they were ages 13 and my twins were 7. I was supposed to run into the store rather quickly, grab what I needed, and run back out. But, if you are a parent I’m sure you can relate when I say things don’t always go as planned.
Today brings the end of another election year and I can honestly say that for me it has been a little less than pleasurable. I enjoy electing another leader for our country, however with all of the name calling and speculations, its been harder to remain focused on the end result.
Have you ever thought what is my purpose in this life? Do you sometimes feel as if you would like to pursue different avenues in life but don’t know how, are scared, or worse, feel like you will fail or are not equipped?
Have you ever really struggled to trust and believe that God is who he says he is? I know I’ve been in that place several times and in the midst, found myself wondering how I got there.
Have you ever felt like God was silent and didn’t hear anything you were praying about? Your prayers seem like an eternity for him to answer and things just aren’t working out? What about those times that you really needed him and felt he wasn’t near?
” The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
I love to read. Funny, because when I was a child I despised it. If it wasn’t something that I needed to read for school, then forget it. And even then it was a chore to get me to read my required reading. I would rather sit and put toothpicks in my eyes. Okay, maybe not that bad, but it was at the bottom of my list of things I disliked. Wow, how things have changed.
Pain is inevitable.
I once heard a quote ” God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” C.S. Lewis.
My first thought was how profound this quote is. How many times have I ignored those little soft whispers and especially the very loud shouts God uses to get our attention.
One afternoon, the kids and I were out shopping at a local store for a few items. We checked out, were walking to the car, and just as I unlocked the doors, it started pouring out of no where. Like literally, soaking -wet- sloshy- shoes kind of rain. It was cloudy, but no real indication that it was going to rain cats and dogs.
Motivation can be hard especially during the summer months when you want to take the week off and and head to the beach. But, where I really struggle with staying motivated is during the school year when the kids are in school and all of their activities keep me hoping from one thing to another. Do they have their uniforms for practice? Who needs help with homework? Is there a PTO meeting tonight? (I’ll be honest, I rarely make these.) And my daily prayer… Lord, please keep everyone healthy. Then there are the occasional late night trips to the store for those I-need-this-by-tomorrow items. Motivation can die quickly.
